We decided to start this blog to keep our friends and families updated about the journey with pictures and stories. Writing is a great way to pass the time when it’s not your turn to drive. I’m sure some of you (our parents) will care about every move we make, every meal, every bathroom stop, every gas fill-up. Others of you will probably just be reading for the great stories. If those come along, we’ll use CAPS. (UPDATE: Just fell asleep in Ohio and woke up and we were still in Ohio. Starting to wonder what merits CAPS and what doesn’t. JUST CROSSED INTO KENTUCKY AND THERE WAS A RAINBOW.)
We left Gina’s house around 2p.m. and it was my first stretch of the trip that I was not driving. When I saw the Welcome to West Virginia sign, I decided I wanted to get a picture of the Welcome sign for each state we enter. Not a bad idea. Would have been a better idea if I had thought of it more than 100 feet from the West Virginia sign. We were too slow on the camera draw and missed it. I could have come back from that and just got the rest of the states, but we were driving through the West Virginia “panhandle” and despite Gina’s dad’s warnings, our time in West Virginia was still surprisingly short. We saw the sign approaching as we crossed a river (the Ohio?). Bruno decided to take a picture of the river and when he passed the camera up to me, I missed. 0 for 2. When we were approaching Kentucky I was ready. Focused, camera out, took some practice shots. When the sign was approaching I made a last second decision that it would be better to take the picture with my head out the window. Not smart. All my practice had been through the glass. I should have known better. Either way, I shot wildly and got half the sign. .5 for 3. Not sure if I’m going to give up on this goal or not…
